Congress shoes, These shoes are made on original 1860s period lasts, Copied from an original shoe in friends collection. Full size range now in stock
How real do you want?
This style of congress shoe is a perfect reproduction of an orginal in a friends collection. These shoes are made on original shoe lasts (these are the molds that the shoes are made on)that were produced during the 1850's and 60's. These lasts are in my own collection. We have recently bought a shoe last turning lathe and will soon be using my original items as models to copy, giving me a full range of sizes and widths of "original" lasts. This lathe is the last one remaining in Canada and one of very few in North America No other maker of reproduction shoes has the ability to do this.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now able to make real shoes as they were in the 1850's and 60's giving you all the style and unique shape that can't be found today.
These shoe run long in the toe. ON PURPOSE. These original lasts are very, very shallow in the toes. If you do not have this length. Your toes will be crushed. Welcome to the 19th century!
Congress shoes were hieght of fashion for a gentleman. Elastic has just been invented, and shoes were one of it's first uses.
These are the first of a series of shoes and boots that I will be calling the "Originals" series. Keep your eyes peeled over this winter as I gradually add styles and sizes to this catagory..
