Fredricksburg shoes, Brown low quartered civilian shoes, copied from and original pair in the Bata Shoe Museum. Remember. Not every soldier wore Union issue brogans!
The Fredricksburg shoe was the second style of shoe we ever made. It is so typical of a common mans shoe from the mid 1800's. The original shoes are housed in the collection of the Bata shoe Museum in Toronto ON. These are well documented as being brought home along with a rebel canteen by a Mass. soldier from the battles of Fredricksburg VA in 1862. You can't get better.
The originals are brown (russet) leather lined with cloth in the vamp (front) and leather in the quarters (back) Two eyelets. The soles are pegged and the shoes are straight (no left/right). The only difference between ours and the originals is they are made left right for comfort, but if you look at the soles they apear to be straight.
These are a good original style of shoe, well documented. Exellent for a Confederate impression. My sales pitch for these shoes has always been "not every Confederate wore Union issue brogans" What more can you ask for..
